Week of April 13 -- Elias Alexander

Elias Alexander is a singer, multi-instrumentalist, and actor, and is one of a handful of musicians from the US who are on the forefront of creativity within contemporary Celtic music. He graduated from Middlebury College in 2013 with a BA in music. Since then he has composed for, lead, and toured with several bands including Soulsha, an eight-piece Afro-Celtic Funk band, and The Bywater Band, an innovative Celtic ensemble. He also plays with other bands including Fàrsan, MAC, and Seven Nations, and has performed with greats of the Celtic world such as Alasdair Fraser, Carlos Nuñez, and Gillebride MacMillan.

Elias has recorded for FiddleQuest since 2017.

Week of April 20 -- Alfonso Franco

Alfonso Franco has been playing in the Galician folk scene since 1980s. He was involved in the dawn of Galician folk music; touring the Spain, Europe, California and Canadá with different bands as “Bulla Timpánica” or “Galician Fiddle & Celtic Harp dúo”.

Alfonso teaches at the Traditional Music Conservatory of Vigo in Galicia, Spain He leads “Galician Fiddle”cultural association and is also helps put on the “San Simón Fiddle Camp”.

Week of April 27 -- Ellery Klein

Ellery Klein is a performer and teacher of fiddle in the Boston, MA area. She holds an MA in Traditional Irish Music from the University of Limerick in Ireland.

 

She toured with Billboard-charting band Gaelic Storm from 2003-2007 and currently is a member of Irish trio Fódhla.

 

She has been teaching using FiddleQuest since 2016.

Week of May 4 -- Mirabai Peart

Mirabai Peart studied at the Australian Institute of Music, the Sydney Conservatorium and her further studies have taken her to India, Greece, Turkey and the USA.


Mirabai's current projects include the duo with guitarist and composer Ryan Francesconi. Their duo album 'Road to Palios' has recently been released on Bella Union. ​ Together they toured internationally in late 2015 with Alela Diane for Ryan and Alela's collaborative album 'Cold Moon', and most recently again in Joanna Newsom's band for her album 'Divers'.

Mirabai is a FiddleQuest teacher in Portland, Oregon.

Week of May 18 -- Lena Jonsson

In the new generation of contemporary folk music, Lena Jonsson is one of Scandinavia’s most influential fiddlers. Lena’s style is unique in combining her deep knowledge of traditional Swedish folk music and the youthful sounds of rock, pop, jazz, American old-time and bluegrass.

 

Her inspired style earned her a Swedish Grammy nomination for her premier album “Places” in 2019, and performances for Barack Obama as well as Greta Thunberg. Effortlessly integrating virtousity and rockstar charisma, her music is joyous, sparking life and connection in every performance.

Lena has recorded for FiddleQuest since 2018.

Week of May 25 -- Ross DeBardelaben

 

Ross DeBardelaben is a violin and viola teacher and performer and founder of Miami Virtuosi. Ross is a Doctor of Musical Arts in Viola Performance, University of Miami Frost School of Music. He has maintained a private violin and viola teaching studio in Miami since 2005. 

Ross's performance career ranges from work with the Miami Symphony, Nashville Symphony and Ray Charles Orchestra to tours with Amy Grant and Led Zeppelin.

Ross has been a FiddleQuest teacher since 2017.
